# Record Store Inventory Software: The Floor Suite

Most record shops run on three disconnected systems: a spreadsheet for stock, a marketplace account for selling, and a cash drawer for the counter. The Floor Suite replaces all three with one workspace built specifically around how vinyl is actually traded — crate by crate, often without a stable internet connection.

## What record store inventory software has to solve

Generic retail software assumes uniform products with a barcode and a fixed price. Vinyl is the opposite: the same title exists in dozens of pressings, each with a different market value, and half your stock is second-hand with no scannable barcode at all.

That means inventory software for a record store needs pressing-level identification, per-copy condition and pricing, and a way to take in stock quickly at a fair or a house clearance.

## Intake: from crate to stock in seconds

Intake starts with a scan — barcode, catalogue number or the sleeve itself. The item is identified, matched against your existing stock, and added with condition and prices. If you are buying a full collection you can process everything first and set asking prices later; the Action Centre keeps that task open until every price is saved.

## Consignment handled as consignment

Consignment stock is not bought, so The Floor removes the purchase amount entirely and records the agreement instead. The consignor's share is calculated at the moment of sale, and the payout stays traceable through the sales receipts.

## Offline is not a fallback, it is the design

A cellar, a fair hall or a shop with thick walls will kill your connection at exactly the wrong moment. The Floor keeps a rolling snapshot of your inventory on the device, so lookups, sales and intake keep working with no signal. When the connection returns, everything syncs — with reservations, cross-tab locking and a dead-letter queue so nothing is silently lost.

## Grounded identification, not guesswork

Recognition results are always resolved against real data: your own inventory first, then verified catalogue sources such as Discogs and MusicBrainz. Nothing is invented to fill a gap — if a pressing cannot be confirmed, the tool says so and lets you search manually. That is the difference between a lookup you can price against and a guess you have to double-check.
